SOME FORMER Jeopardy! contestants have been trekking to Hawthorne, N.Y., in recent weeks to retest their skills. This time they're going up against a computer named Watson, created by researchers at International Business Machines. So far, the computer looks like a winner. In the category "Edible Rhyme Time," the clue ...is: "A long, tiresome speech delivered by a frothy pie topping." Watson correctly responds, "Meringue Harangue." Next: "This title character was the crusty and tough city editor of the Los Angeles Tribune." The computer's answer? "Who is Lou Grant?"
