United Nations Climate Summit

On September 20, nearly 1,200 enthusiastic and inspiring volunteers met in Central Park to participate in the Human Countdown, a massive stunt organized to show world leaders that we are ready for a fair, ambitious and binding climate treaty. The event received significant coverage in video and print media from the LA Times, BBC, Associated Press, ABC, NBC, CNN International, NPR, and Reuters, to outlets in Germany, France, Japan, Russia, Thailand and more.

G20

On September 24 at the G20 meeting in Pittsburgh, a dozen supporters donned black and gold Steelers jerseys to depict world leaders struggling to tackle global poverty. The stunt was a great success, providing photo and interview opportunities for several major media outlets, including the AP, Reuters, AFP, EFE, BBC, CBS local affiliate, NBC local affiliate, Canal Plus TV France, and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
The Oxfam America CHANGE Initiative is now accepting student applications for its free 2009 summer training in Boston July 18-24. Here is your chance to become more involved on your campus and community.

Register and Apply by April 1

The CHANGE Initiative aims to develop capable and confident young leaders, who are active agents for positive social change. Oxfam is looking for a diverse group of undergraduate students - rising sophomores and juniors - committed to social justice issues. Students must have an interest in global issues including mining, climate change, hunger & poverty, and be willing to carry out campaigns on their campuses and in their communities.

We’ve put together a short video explaining the program and how it has made a difference in the lives of the students who participated in the summer training.
