L'Anne Rice Finished watching the first season of Dollhouse and truly enjoyed it, principally because of the highly imaginative plots, and the complex characters. Then moved on to Firefly. Any comments on these series?

L'Anne Rice Funny thing happened today. I got an email from some one who had read one of my posts on an Amazon.com discussion forum, who asked me to correct my misspelling of a three letter word. Should we be grateful for the Spelling Police that never sleep?

Anne, I want to tell you that all of your books have entertained and enlightened me over the years. None have touched me as much as Angel Time. I grew up a child of an alcoholic mother...

“Angel Time” by Anne Rice is a bit of a departure for her.It takes its place somewhere between her supernatural thriller novels and her Christian novels, and is clearly the beginning of a new series if it has good sales.

L'Anne Rice This is what I think. The hostile anti-Christian email I receive comes from those who misunderstand who I am and what I do. They seem to be associating me with political Protestant evangelicals. They feel obligated to protest a philosophy which they find odious. It's taken me a little time to figure this out. I see ...now that I don't fit anywhere. I never did. I never will.

L'Anne Rice Writers have to live with rejection; you have to preserve singularity of vision, too. You can't be pulled this way and that by reader reaction, no matter how much you love your readers. They count on you, ultimately, to write the best book that you know how to write. They want the results of your obsession. And they are entitled to that.

L'Anne Rice Sometimes my posts reflect my puzzlement. I love to hear from my readers. I try to answer each email individually. Anti-horror sentiments from those I don't know kind of float away. But anti-Christian hate letters from those who claim to be my readers, well, that's a different matter. I pay attention and try to figure out what is going on.

L'Anne Rice All writers have to face rejection and misunderstanding. To write is to risk. But I do think authors can help the public perception of their work by the things that they say. What ultimately sells a book is word of mouth, or personal impressions based on title, cover art, perceived theme. That's part of the game.

L'Anne Rice We will be doing a signing at Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena, California on February 6th at 1 p.m. in the afternoon. This is for Angel Time, but the store will allow me to sign one additional book from the backlist along with Angel Time. Hope some of you will join us. Vroman's is a great store.

L'Anne Rice For years I was upset that my books were labeled "Horror Novels." Then I realized it didn't matter. The books stayed on the shelves. People had to chance to experience them for themselves. Same will happen with my Christian novels which are being insulted and rejected today.

L'Anne Rice Breaking books into categories has always been dangerous. Good books should transcend their labels. Categories serve book stores and reviewers and some time they serve book buyers, but they frustrate authors very much.

L'Anne Rice Let me add to the list of Christian fiction writers, Charles Dickens and George MacDonald. I would throw in Kazantzakis as well, though some might disagree. And of course Lew Wallace, the author of Ben Hur.

L'Anne Rice I'm realizing: Christian fiction for me includes Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, J. R. Tolkien, G. K. Chesterton, Flannery O'Connor, C.S. Lewis, and a multitude of other dazzling writers. That's why I'm so suprised when some one tells me "I will not read your Christian books." Am I being confused with some other tradition?
