The Young Ones captures the essence of student life in Thatcherite Britain in the ealy 80's, albeit in a very surreal manner!!
4 students studying at the aptly named Scumbag College share both a house and apathy for life and the society they live in.
Characters are:
Vyvyan Basterd - A medical student who's somewhere in between a punk and a metaller, his capacity for violence is unmatched by his housemates.
Rick - A sociology student and Cliff Richard fan who likes to think he's the epitome of anarchy, when in fact he's just a toadying nerd. Who writes bad poetry.
Neil Pye - A Peace Studies student, Neil is a depressed, vegetarian, pacifist hippy whose life in the house revolves around cooking, cleaning, lentils and trying to commit suicide.
Mike The Cool Person - Mike is a con artist who seems to be looked up to by the others, although not literally as he's tiny.
The Balowsky Family - All played by Alexei Sayle, Jerzy Balowski is landlord of both houses that the students live in.
Jerzy was the only regular Balowsky character, other characters include nephew Alexei Balowski (a protest singer), son Reggie Balowski (an international arms dealer), brother Billy Balowski (a lunatic who believed he was a taxi driver), cousin Tommy Balowski (a drunk), escaped convict Brian Damage Balowski, and a medieval jester "Jester Balowski"
