I have been a fan of the movie for quite some time. So I want to pose a question. What do you think is in Marcellus Wallace's briefcase? All we get to see is the golden light on certain characters faces, but we never get a look at what is in the actual case. Do you think its literally bullion/gold or does it have a deeper metaphorical meaning.

Please enlighten us.

From what I've heard... its marcellus's soul.. eluding to the bandaid on the back of his neck.. where soul stealers mythically have extracted the souls of evil men.. Also heard it was Elvis's jumpsuit.. guess we'll never know.

My guess is money, gold or drugs. Or maybe something else. Btu I'm sure Tarantino knew what was in the briefcase. Could be Marcellus's soul or something supernatural like that, I've heard it's Marcellus's soul...

I read in an interview that originally the briefcase contained diamonds but then they thought that was too stupid so they figured it was better not to show it and let the audience decide for themselves in their heads what the beautiful thing was. The mistake was putting in that orange lightbulb which made it seem like it was something spiritual. It wasn't.

A couple of theorys on this i've heard in addition to Marcellus's soul was it was an Oscar Marcellus had organised for Mia. The other was it was the diamonds from the Resovoir Dogs hoist.

Tarantino had said that he initially wanted it to be diamonds, but because of the cliche he left undecided. His words are that its mystery was only a plot element. I would love to think that its his soul though.
